TUESDAY'S
GIFT
This painting has a special meaning to
me. It started out as kind of
tribute to the Tennessee state flower. As
time went on, my best friend who owned
many of my original paintings, kept
asking me how it was coming
along
..he'd love to see it.
After calling me from his hospital bed,
where he had been fighting a lengthy
illness, he asked me "Are you ever
going to get that painting
finished?" It had been four
months. In the next month as his
health was failing rapidly
.he had
an unusually great day at the
hospital
..joking, like always and
being himself. I took the painting
of the Iris to his hospital room so he
could see that I was "actually
working on it". He had
us move it around the room under
different light
.as he always
did
while looking at my
paintings. He had seen almost
every painting I had done. We
talked for a while and when I left the
hospital it hit me that this would be the
last painting of mine he would ever
see. It was on Tuesday. He
past away three days later. As a tribute
to him and his love of my paintings, I
named it "Tuesday's
Gift". It was truly a gift
being able to sit and talk to him one
last time. |
