THE
VIOLIN OF JAMES RUDOLPH LOVELL
This was the violin, or fiddle,
as dad called it, of my Grandfather. My
dad played it regularly and was very good
with it. He would often walk around
the house driving mom crazy while playing
it. It was his favorite
pastime. He would often sit it on
the old piano or mantel when finished
playing with it. After seeing this
Windsor chair hand crafted by fellow
artisan and friend, Dan Cranor, I thought
it would be the perfect setting for dad's
fiddle. I'm not sure of the exact age of
the violin, probably around 150 to 200
years. Possibly older if it belonged to
my great-grandfather, Robert Greene
Lovell. No one knows for sure. |
