"The Veteran"

I met "Moses", his given name, while driving though Petersburg, Tn. one day. I knew from the moment I saw him that he would be the first person that I would ever paint. He was around a hundred years old at the time I started the painting. It took me a year to complete the painting, starting in April of 1987 through April of 1988. While working on the painting, I found that he had been admitted to the Alvin C. York Veterans Home in Murfreesboro, Tn. He lived there until he passed away in 1993, around the age of 105. A very humble man.....he still today remains one of my favorite paintings. I was honored to have the opportunity to paint him at his home in Petersburg. He was a World War One veteran.
